Named after Bornholmer Straße, which honours the Danish Baltic island of Bornholm.
The street, dedicated in 1903, is named after Bornholm, a Danish island in the Baltic about 150 km east of Copenhagen. The station was closed when the Wall was built on 13 August 1961 and is counted, in a wider sense, among the ghost stations. On 9 November 1989 the border crossing on the Bösebrücke beside it was opened, on the day the Wall fell. The platform reopened on 22 December 1990.
