Named after Grüntal, a village north-east of Berlin.
Grüntal is today part of the municipality of Sydower Fließ in the Barnim district of Brandenburg, nearly 10 km north-east of Bernau; it is mentioned in a document of 1347. The street got its name in 1895. One of its earlier names was Communicationsweg an der Stettiner Bahn, the ‘link road along the Stettin railway’.
