Named after the Marksburg, a medieval castle on the Rhine.
The castle stands above Braubach in Rhineland-Palatinate and dates from the 13th century. It was first called Burg Braubach; a chapel of St Mark is first recorded there in 1437, and the name ‘Marxburg’ appears in 1570. Since 2002 it has been part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site. The street has had its name since 1910.
