Named after Nollendorfplatz, which recalls a battle of 1813 in Bohemia.
The square was named on 27 November 1864 as part of the Generalszug, a chain of streets named after commanders and battles of the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon. Nollendorf (today Nakléřov in the Czech Republic) gave its name to the allied victory of Kulm and Nollendorf in August 1813, in which the Prussian corps of General Friedrich von Kleist played a decisive part. Kleist was then made Count ‘von Nollendorf’.
