Named after Vinetastraße, which recalls Vineta, a legendary city on the Baltic coast.
According to legend, Vineta, on the coast of Western Pomerania, was swallowed by a storm flood because of the pride and extravagance of its inhabitants; its bells are still said to be heard from the depths of the sea at certain times. The station opened on 29 June 1930 as Pankow (Vinetastraße) and was renamed plain Vinetastraße on 13 November 1993.
