Turkey Street

Enfield

Named after the old hamlet of Turkey Street – nothing to do with turkeys.

It was recorded as Tokestreete in 1441, Tuckhey strete in 1610 and Turkey street in 1805, probably a street of houses, or hamlet, linked to a family called Toke or Tokey. The form 'Turkey' is no doubt folk etymology. The Turkey Brook is named after the hamlet. The station opened as Forty Hill and took its present name in 1960.
