Named after the park Humphry Repton designed at Wembley for Richard Page.
'Wembley' means Wemba's clearing. In 1792 Page, lord of the manor, hired Repton to turn his farmland into wooded parkland, and Repton often called the areas he landscaped 'parks' – hence the name. In the 1890s the railway chairman Edward Watkin began a tower here meant to rival the Eiffel Tower; it was never finished, and Wembley Stadium was later built on its site.
