'Contournement' is French for bypass.
The Dommeldange bypass carries the N11, the national road from Luxembourg to Echternach, along the border with Weimerskirch; it has done so since the 1980s. Before that, the road ran from the Eich clinic along the rue d’Echternach through the quarter. Once the bypass was built it took the N11 number, and the old route was downgraded.
