'La Francophonie' is the community of French-speaking peoples and countries. Their organisation, today the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, goes back to a convention signed by 21 states in Niamey, Niger, on 20 March 1970. Luxembourg has been a member since 1970, and in 1999 the member states agreed to hold the first conference of the Women of La Francophonie here.
