Named after the rue Boissière, after an old cross decorated with box.
The Croix Boissière was a cross decorated with box branches (buis) on feast days such as Palm Sunday. The street, a path of the old commune of Passy in 1730, was first called the rue du Cœur-Volant, after a cabaret sign, then the rue de la Croix-Boissière. An order of 2 April 1868 gave it its present, shorter name.
