Named after the rue Censier and the rue Daubenton.
'Censier' comes from rue Sans Chef, 'street without an end', because it was once a dead end. The rue Daubenton honours the naturalist Louis Jean-Marie Daubenton (1716–1799), who worked with Buffon on his Natural History and was the first director of the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle.
