Named after the rue Falguière, which honours Alexandre Falguière (1831–1900).
Born in Toulouse, the son of a cabinetmaker, the sculptor and painter won the Prix de Rome in 1859 and taught at the École des beaux-arts from 1882; Antoine Bourdelle was among his pupils. This stretch of the street, an old Vaugirard path that was part of the chemin des Fourneaux and later the rue des Fourneaux, took his name in 1900.
