Named after the town hall of Issy-les-Moulineaux.
The town was first simply Issy, a name perhaps from medieval Latin Issiacum, 'estate of Isicius', a Gallo-Roman landowner – an explanation by the abbé Lebeuf that is disputed. Called L'Union during the Revolution, Issy officially took the name Issy-les-Moulineaux in 1893. Les Moulineaux was a small hamlet named after the mills (moulins) that stood there.
