Named after the rue Vaneau, after Louis Vaneau (1811–1830).
Vaneau, a student of the École polytechnique, was shot on 29 July 1830, during the July Revolution, while charging at the head of insurgents to take a barracks in the rue de Babylone held by Swiss Guards. That same year a street near the barracks, perhaps the one where he fell, was renamed after him: ‘rue Vanneau’, spelt with one n only from 1873.
