Named after Berliner Straße, Wilmersdorf’s old road towards Berlin.
The street was the old connection between the village of Wilmersdorf and Berlin. After Berlin became the imperial capital in 1871, Wilmersdorf gave this name to a road leading towards the city, formed from several existing roads: in 1888 others were joined to the old Berliner Weg (Berlin road), recorded since shortly after 1695.
