Friedenau

Schöneberg

Named after Friedenau, the villa colony it was built for – though it stands in Schöneberg.

When it was built, the station mainly served the newly founded country-house colony of Friedenau. ‘Frieden’ means peace: the name refers to the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 and recalls the Peace of Frankfurt, concluded in the year the colony was founded. It was suggested by Auguste Hähnel, wife of the builder Hermann Hähnel. A first stop opened here in 1874.
