Named after Nikolassee, the villa colony that took its name from a small lake.
The villa colony was founded in 1901 and borrowed the name of the Nikolassee lake; the station opened in 1902. The lake owes its name to the Cistercian monks of Lehnin Abbey, who most probably acquired it in 1242 and called it ‘St. Clawes See’ in honour of Saint Nicholas (‘Klawes’ in Middle Low German). In 1652 it appears as ‘Niclas See’.
