Named after Paulsternstraße, which recalls Paulstern, a vanished settlement that grew from an inn.
In the 18th century an inn called ‘Zum Goldenen Stern’ (the Golden Star) stood here on the old Nonnendamm. In 1848 the place was officially named Paulstern; the list of Haselhorst streets names a Paul Stern as the inn's owner. The settlement has gone, but the street, named in 1929, keeps the name. Architect Rainer G. Rümmler gave the station a night sky with stars and a moth.
