Named after the place and rue Jussieu, which honour the botanist Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu (1748–1836).
He taught botany at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle. The station was once called Jussieu – Halle aux Vins, after the wine market created by Napoleon, where the university campus now stands.
