Named after Taborstraße, which leads to the site of the ‘Tabor’, an old bridge fortification.
This old road ran from the bridge over the Danube Canal towards the Danube crossings; it is documented as Kremser Straße in 1406. Around 1850 it was named after the Tabor, a semicircular earthwork guarding the Danube bridge – a type of fortification known in Austria since the Hussite Wars (1420–1434). The later Tabor, at today’s Am Tabor, disappeared in 1875 with the regulation of the Danube.
